This was a relatively quiet period for the 49th Battalion. There were several tours in the front lines with perhaps the most significant being their participation, in a supporting role, in the Battle for Hill 70, 15-27 August.

Our series of articles on Regimental Commanding Officers continues with the twelfth CO of the 1st Battalion, The Loyal Edmonton Regiment, Brigadier Henry Pybus Bell-Irving, OC, DSO, OBE, OBC, ED, CD. He came from the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada to take command of the battalion on 6 June 1944.
