1918 – January to March
Having suffered badly at the Second Battle of Passchendaele in the last quarter, the first quarter of 1918 was relatively quiet for the 49th Battalion. There were two trips to the front in January and three in March, all with few casualties. Most of February was spent in army and divisional reserve. However, March 21 saw the beginning of the major German Spring Offensive. For details, read the article in our latest newsletter at the link below.
This is the fifteenth in a series of quarterly newsletters recognizing 100th anniversary events of the First World War. We want to highlight significant and/or interesting events, people, stories and artifacts from that war with an emphasis on Edmonton and the 49th Battalion.
