1917 – October to December
The Second Battle of Passchendaele (October 26 to November 10) was, in percentage terms, the costliest battle the 49th Battalion ever fought. The battalion lost three quarters of its strength in a few hours on the morning of 30 October. For details of the battalion’s part in this battle, read the article in our latest newsletter at the link below.
This is the fourteenth in a series of quarterly newsletters recognizing 100th anniversary events of the First World War. We want to highlight significant and/or interesting events, people, stories and artifacts from that war with an emphasis on Edmonton and the 49th Battalion. The newsletter also includes articles related to 75th anniversary events of the Second World War and to more current events, including museum activities. Anyone wishing to be included on our email contact list to received copies of our newsletter should email us at lermusm@telus.net.
